dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille #156 Wrap

This is a response to the prompt Quadrille #156 by dVerse Poets Pub

Write a 44 word poem containing the word “wrap”.

Holy azaleas and fat crickets

I’m watching how beauty feeds

Multiple creatures in different ways

The beauty feeds me, too.

Novotel Twin Waters

Kids picking hibiscus flowers,

Discovering ants.

Learning:

Feast with your eyes

Don’t wrap beauty around your fingers.

As I watch, I breathe in awe.

Wow.

It’s 45 words! Hope you liked it!

Carrot Ranch #99wordstory: Floating

This post is as a response to Carrot Ranch’s writing prompt #99WordStory on Floating. The instruction is to write a 99-word-story, no more, no less, on floating.

Floating:

I’m floating at Coogee Beach pool; learning to swim where my Mum learned—my 80-year-old grandma sprightly and upright walking miles up hills and down dales to see us at the beach.

That night I lie in bed and capture the sensation of floating: the relaxation and joy of being in water—being held, supported, and caressed by nature.

My hair gets gold highlights in it and my sister and I walk down the beach searching out shells and treasures.

One time my sister found $10! Just don’t bathe near the storm water outlet cos it makes people sick.

Three Things Challenge #M28

This is my response to the three things challenge from pensivity101

Shopping: Bargain, Parking, Shelf

Contractual relationships– our lives are governed by parameters and hierarchies. Breaking free of it leaves me breathless, searching out: faith, friendship, family, and work that serves the community.

And I know that Kmart doesn’t pay their workers right, but I catch myself searching for bargains. Who can resist those $2 bouncy balls?

Always hurrying my shopping so I don’t have to pay for parking, adding one more book to shelves crammed with books and ornaments.

Then complaining that I don’t have enough.

In reality there’s plenty of honey in the cupboard; I’m safe.

Dense living shoots, and The Tantrum

Dense Living Shoots:

There once was a balcony aloe
It’s dish was surprisingly shallow
But it still made new shoots
And dense living roots,
There’s no need to leave your heart fallow

The Tantrum:

He screams, he cries,
He’ll thrash his little legs
And rub his eyes
The innocence of disarray
His behaviors I can not deny

Unless I look deep into the heart of things, and breathe.

There’s no training for his family
To deal with their son’s complex needs
Navigating systems that can’t cope
Half my role is give them hope

That a valuable life has nothing to do with living up to a pretend ideal of what passes for normality.

He drew an ‘H’ in the air today,
I could’ve cried ‘Hip Hip Hooray’
He’s learning how to train his mind
Now how to teach him to be kind

To get him through to the excellence, mastery, bravery, and vulnerability that I hope will make him a brilliant adult.
